ILEGAL DUMPING – Ilegal dumpers, hide under the carpet ! ECO PATROL IS COMING!.
On Saturday 5th March 2016 Members of ”Murter Eco Patrol” patrolled the island of Murter in search of illegal dumpings and participated in the effort to clean up the environment.
After the great response of students from Primary School “Murterski škoji”, we selected twenty of newly “eco-protectors” of the Murter Island, which participated this Saturday in the first activity of the project “Patrolling, mapping and cleaning.”
Members of “Murter Eco Patrol” met in Argonauta’s Education Center. After the initial introduction the “eco-guards” of Murter Island made a wooden sign on which was written “This is not a landfill!”. To awake and sharpen their vision of patrol,the island patrol members played a few fun games outdoors.
After the morning full of entertainment, team started patrolling and as part of this action children investigated illegal landfills in Murter.
During all the way they collected the waste that they encountered. They made a great job and collected seven large bags of garbage. On the beach Podvrške children made a break to “marenda” and spoke about the main environmental problems of the island Murter.
In one of the illegal landfills the young ecologists put a sign “This is not the landfill!”, and all the way, the children with the help of mobile applications recorded coordinates of illegal landfills. After come back to Argonauta’s Education Center, members of eco patrol together with leaders produced a map of illegal landfills and wrote a letter in which they informed the competent institutions of the locations of illegal waste dumps.
The next activity will be held on the island Zminjak, near Murter, where “Murter Eco-Patrol” will clean the beach, investigate illegal landfills and thereby have a good time.
