WE ARE PARTICIPATING TO THE CONFERENCE “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (LOCAL COMMUNITIES) IN EURO-MEDITERRANEAN”..

From June 11 to 13, 2019, at the IMPACT-European Center for Inter-Sector Cooperation in Zadar, a conference “Sustainable Development (Local Communities of the Euro-Mediterranean)” was organized by the National Foundation for Civil Society Development as a member of the Croatian Network for Cooperation on Euro – Mediterranean and Anna Lindh Foundation.

The conference was opened by Cvjetana Plavša-Matić from the National Foundation for Civil Society Development, and with numerous international participants, representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the conference.

The conference focused on four sub-topics: the role of women in the development of local communities in the Euro-Mediterranean, sustainable development of the islands in the Mediterranean, social entrepreneurship and renewable energy sources. Among these four themes, Argonauta association’s most interesting topic was the sustainable development of the island, since most of the projects of Argonauta association are aimed at encouraging the sustainable development of the island of Murter. It is important to hear the national and international examples of activities that contribute to the sustainable development of the islands in the Mediterranean. Also, the other three themes triggered numerous discussions and opened up the topics of possible future co-operation among congress participants on the exchange of experiences, knowledge and partnerships

The conference held is the second in a series of thematic discussions, preparing for the ALF MED Forum 2020, to be held in April 2020 in Sibenik with the aim of increasing the impact of intercultural action facing the challenges of the Euro-Mediterranean local communities. The Forum will bring together about a thousand civil society representatives from 42 countries and hope that our association will have the opportunity to participate in this event, present its work and educate itself through examples of good practice.
