The Blue Eco Patrol Project is a comprehensive educational program for sustainable development in the coastal and island local communities of the Šibenik-Knin County, intended for elementary schools. The project is intended for primary schools in Murter, Tisno, Pirovac, Vodice, Brodarica, Primošten and Rogoznica, and started on 01 June 2019 and lasts for 22 months. The “Blue Eco-patrol” project is co-financed through the Swiss-Croatian cooperation program in the amount of HRK 1,152,000.00, and the total value of the project is 1,280,000.00 HRK.
The project was designed to provide opportunities for systematic, extracurricular education on sustainable development for elementary school pupils in the island and coastal areas of the Šibenik-Knin County. The idea for the project derives from the extra-curricular activities of the “Murters Eco-patrol” organized by Argonauta association in 2015. This project has made it possible to expand the Eco-patrol program to test the knowledge and experience of developing non-formal education programs for sustainable development and introduce the program into a formal education system.
Through this project, the “Blue Eco-patrol” education program will be developed, which will include at least eight thematic units from sustainable development, each of which will be transformed into a workshop designed using informal learning methods. In the pilot implementation of the education program, groups of students will be led by the local coordinator and a total of 56 out-of-school education activities “Blue Eco-patrol” will be implemented. The aim is to take volunteer action in the local community and to devise innovative ways to combine sustainable development education with local community activism.
The project will also rebuild and equip the “Education Center for Sustainable Development of the Island and Coastal Areas of the Šibenik-Knin County”, which will provide a suitable space for the long-term and systematic implementation of an extracurricular education program for sustainable development. The renewed center will provide a space for cooperation between NGOs, institutions and other local stakeholders for systematic work in promoting sustainable development in the project area.
