WHAT IS THE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT?..
What is an ecological footprint? How do our behaviors and habits affect nature? How to reduce your footprint? These are all questions to which we offered answers at this week’s Eco-Wednesday as part of the project “Kornati – it is important to know about the sea 8”.🌿🌏
Ecological footprint refers to the assessment of the use of resources that are needed to sustain an individual or an economy. The ecological footprint is a measure of human impact on the environment.
Children from the kindergarten group “Školjkica” – Betina district facility, part of the “Spužvica” Kindergarten – Tisno, got to know a new concept in a simple and creative way by solving a maze where they discovered the best way to the kindergarten that leaves the smallest footprint on Earth or which food travels the fewest kilometers to the table.
On the large footprint drawing, the children were divided into 4 groups and answered questions with yes and no, and thus came to see how much their habits and behaviors leave a mark on planet Earth. If they answer affirmatively to a question such as “I walk to kindergarten” or “I use a glass bottle to drink”, they must put a green dot on the print indicating that this action has a positive effect on nature, while an affirmative answer to the statement “I don’t turn off the water while brushing my teeth” brings red dot. The winning team is the one with the most green dots. ☘️🌳☀️
The children learned new terms and the importance of adopting habits that are good for the environment, which is the beginning of creating an environmentally conscious population!

*The project is financed by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia
*The European Solidarity Corps (ESS) is a program of the European Union to strengthen solidarity in various areas: from helping disadvantaged people and providing humanitarian aid to engagement for health and the environment in the EU and beyond.
The program offers young people the opportunity to respond to the needs of the community, make a concrete contribution to society, and in the process gain invaluable experience and develop new skills. The program is also intended for organizations active in the field of solidarity that want to involve young people in their activities.
Volunteers from the European Solidarity Forces program took part in the activity.
