WHY ARE INSECTS IMPORTANT?.

Datum objave: 21. February, 2024.

The 5th Eco-Wednesday workshop as part of the project “Kornati – it’s important to know about the sea 8” is behind us, and this week’s topic was the diverse world of insects. 🦗🕷🐞🦋

Some love them, some hate them, but we can all conclude that they are extremely important for the environment. In addition to pollinating plants and warding off dangerous pests, they preserve biodiversity and play an active role in the food chain.

Kindergarten group “Školjkica” – district facility Betina, part of Kindergarten “Spužvica” – Tisno, learned about new types of insects, their importance and how we can save them. To begin with, our ESC volunteer Juliette prepared a presentation with pictures of different insects, with which she managed to change the opinion of some children who thought that insects are only ugly and scary.

The children enthusiastically played tomobolo, on which instead of numbers there were pictures of various insects. In this way, through a fun game, they learned about the biodiversity of these tiny creatures. After learning why insects are important and what types there are, the children built a hotel for insects from empty cans that they will put in their garden and thus protect the life of tiny insects. At the end, we played imitations of different insects with happy music.

The children learned that the next time they see an insect, they will not immediately step on it, but will try to return it to nature!

See how the workshop went in the gallery! 🦂🐌🐜
