ECOLOGICAL ACCEPTABILITY AND TEXTILE INDUSTRY.
Today, February 28, 2024, we held the 6th eco-Wednesday workshop in a row as part of the project “Kornati – it is important to know about the sea 8”. Today’s topic was about clothing production, consumerism and making decisions that are better for the environment.
The children from the kindergarten group “Školjkica” – district facility Betina, part of the kindergarten “Spužvica” – Tisno first completed their insect houses from the previous workshop, and then learned where the clothes they use every day come from, how far they have to travel to reached them and what means of transport they travel with. The little ones were shocked to learn that over 4 million tons of clothes are thrown into the trash every year. We introduced them to the possibilities of donating and repurposing clothes, as well as intergenerational exchange.
The children were introduced to the new concept of “Ecological Acceptability” with which they should orientate themselves in decisions and behaviors involving the consumption of goods. Finally, we played an interesting game in which the children had the goal of bringing old clothes to the second-hand market, but they must not be caught by the garbage on the road.
The children became aware of the nature of the textile industry, and we hope that this will be reflected in their purchasing decisions.
