MOVING FOR MENTAL HEALTH: 10 DAYS OF YOUTH EXCHANGE IN SIBENIK.
Šibenik, a Croatian jewel bathed in the waters of the Adriatic, was recently the center of an interesting event. From April 1 to 10, 45 adventurous young people from Turkey, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, North Macedonia and Greece gathered for an unforgettable trip. With the dynamic theme of movement and mental health, these ten days were more than just an exchange.
Guided by a central theme, the days were filled with a series of interesting workshops. The initial workshop on teamwork laid the foundation for a strong friendship, while the national workshops on mental health opened up new horizons. From meditation to yoga, from dance to exploring cultural identity, from stress management to empowerment, each national team brought their own perspective to the integration of sport in the pursuit of mental well-being.
But learning was not limited to the classroom. Cultural excursions, such as a study trip to the island of Zlarin with a visit to the Croatian Coral Center Zlarin, as well as eco-walks, provided valuable opportunities to discover the ecological and cultural wealth of the region. An inspiring visit by the Aurora association and immersion in the Eco Land game also enriched minds and broadened horizons.
Cultural diversity was present throughout the experience. Intercultural evenings animated by cultural presentations, cheerful dances and culinary tastings allowed the participants to forge deep connections, transcending national borders.
Between laughter, dancing and moments of reflection, these ten days were marked by palpable emotions. The parting moments were filled with love and nostalgia, celebrating the lasting bonds created during the exchange. For some it was the first foray into such projects, while for others it represented another step on a path rich in similar experiences.
Ultimately, exchanges are not just one-time events, but catalysts for change and personal enrichment. They provide a platform where young people can not only meet and exchange ideas, but also learn, grow and progress together. These 10 days in Šibenik were more than an ordinary European meeting – they were the beginning of lasting connections and collective awareness of the importance of movement for mental health.
What will he take away from this experience? Undoubtedly a wealth of memories, lessons and friendships that will stand the test of time, affirming the transformative power of international exchanges and the ability of young people to come together for a brighter future.
