WORKSHOP ON RED CORAL AS PART OF THE 1ST BIRTHDAY OF THE ZLARIN CORAL CENTER.

Datum objave: 4. June, 2024.

As part of the celebration of the 1st birthday of the Zlarin Coral Center, on Monday, June 3, we participated in the rich program of this occasion through an educational and entertaining workshop about the Red Coral for children.

Our ESC volunteer Romina provided a workshop full of activities, fun, but also learning about red coral. First, we tested the children’s knowledge of marine biodiversity through a game of guessing the outlines of various animals that live in the Adriatic Sea, and when they showed us that they really had it, the children had the opportunity to learn more about red coral. They were very surprised when they found out that it is not a plant, but an animal, and the way it is formed, we showed through the game a chain of polyps where the children played hunters, but everyone who is caught, continues to hunt the rest holding hands, in order to ultimately created a unique red coral.

After learning the basic information, the children played a red coral rescue game where the biggest polluters, humans, waste and global warming, had to catch the red coral. Fortunately, there were responsible citizens who saved the red coral from extinction with their actions and good habits. Through this fun game, we managed to successfully convey the message that our actions directly affect nature and the environment, and that change starts with each individual.

The last activity of the workshop was the making of plasticine corals, which all the children enjoyed, and at the end we gave them medals with the red coral protector mark, so that they would forever remember everything they learned at the workshop!

We would like to thank the Coral Center Zlarin for the invitation and for being able to celebrate the 1st anniversary with them.

*The European Solidarity Corps (ESS) is a program of the European Union to strengthen solidarity in various areas: from helping disadvantaged people and providing humanitarian aid to engagement for health and the environment in the EU and beyond.

The program offers young people the opportunity to respond to the needs of the community, make a concrete contribution to society, and in the process gain invaluable experience and develop new skills. The program is also intended for organizations active in the field of solidarity that want to involve young people in their activities.

Volunteers from the European Solidarity Forces program took part in the activity.
