Let’s protect the sea!.
For the last workshop of the summer, the children dived into an exciting adventure during Eco-Wednesday, this time dedicated to the protection of the sea. The emphasis was on the crucial importance of preserving our seas and oceans for a more sustainable future. 🌍💙
At the Lantana beach bar, located in the bay of Čigrađa, children participated in a series of fun and educational activities designed to raise awareness of the environmental challenges facing our seas.
The first activity started with an interactive presentation on the theme of the day, where two bottles of water were used to illustrate our start. One bottle was filled with clean, clear water, while the other contained dirty, polluted water. The children answered a series of questions: if we were fish, in which water would we rather swim, eat or sleep? A random selection of bottles, sometimes dirty water, added a touch of fun. But the children quickly realized that, just like fish, we all prefer to live in a clean and healthy environment. This was an opportunity to discuss the main threats to the sea: plastic waste, overfishing and climate change. 🐠🌿
The second activity, called “We are Sea Shepherd”, allowed the children to turn into real protectors of the sea. After a presentation about the non-governmental organization Sea Shepherd and its founder Paul Watson, the children put on their pirate blindfolds as they stepped into the role of protector of the sea. On a large poster representing the sea, they cleaned the waters, added marine species and vegetation, removing pollutants in the process. This interactive activity not only helped the children to better understand the importance of Sea Shepherd’s work, but also allowed them to visualize the necessary actions to protect marine biodiversity. 🐋🌊
Then it was time to get creative with the arts and crafts workshop. Each child had the opportunity to make their own fish, carefully choosing the colors they liked best. Little artists were concentrated and dedicated. The result was a wonderful collection of colorful fish, each of which reflected the personality of its creator. Seeing all these beautiful fish gathered together was a real joy to the eyes and a great way to end this session. 🎨🐟
This workshop was a success, combining awareness, creativity and fun, while strengthening the children’s commitment to protecting the marine environment! 🌞🌍
We are grateful to everyone who in any way was a part of our Eco-Wednesdays over the past 3 months, and we’ll see you again next summer!
*Workshops are held as part of the “Eco Wednesday – educational program for children” project. The project is financed by the Šibenik-Knin County.
*European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a program of the European Union to strengthen solidarity in various areas: from helping the vulnerable and providing humanitarian aid to commitment to health and the environment in the EU and beyond.
The program offers young people the opportunity to respond to the needs of the community, make a concrete contribution to society, and at the same time gain invaluable experience and develop new skills. It is also intended for organizations active in the field of solidarity that want to involve young people in their activities.
Volunteers from the European Solidarity Forces program took part in the action.
