“Energy and resources” – the second Eco Patrol workshop was held.

Datum objave: 28. February, 2025.

On February 22, 2025, a workshop entitled “Energy and Resources” was held with the participation of students of the Vodice Elementary School.

The goal of the first activity “Guess!” was to raise the energy of the participants and introduce them to the topic of natural resources through an interactive game.

The students were divided into four teams. Each team chose a person who would draw a card with the name of a certain natural resource and try to describe it to the other team members using synonyms, gestures or facial expressions. The teams had 30 seconds to guess the term, and each correct answer earned them points.

The activity took place in a cheerful and dynamic atmosphere. The students participated enthusiastically, showing creativity in describing the terms. Terms such as “solar energy”, “wind” and “minerals” provoked interesting attempts at pantomime and associations. At the end of the game, the team with the most points was declared the winner.

The students actively participated, developed communication skills and learned about natural resources in a fun way. It was suggested that similar games be included in future teaching activities to help students learn the material through play and collaboration.

The second educational activity, “Earth Story,” aimed to raise awareness of the importance of natural resources through teamwork and creative storytelling.

Students were divided into four teams, and each team was given certain materials: a cup of water, a closed jar, soil, a stone, a glass container with an animal, and a plant. Their task was to design and tell a story that included all the elements obtained, where they had to cooperate and use their imagination. The teams had 20 minutes to prepare, after which they presented their stories to the other participants.

Most of the stories were humorous in tone, which further contributed to the positive atmosphere among the students. Creativity was expressed through interesting plots – for example, in one story a stone became the main character trying to find its place in the ecosystem, while in another a plant had the power to talk and persuaded an insect not to eat the leaves.

The students showed exceptional ingenuity and a sense of humor, as well as an understanding of the importance of natural elements and their interconnectedness in the ecosystem. The activity encouraged collaboration, teamwork, and storytelling skills, and students expressed a desire for similar tasks in the future.

The third activity, “Our Home,” aimed to explore the origins of materials and objects from everyday life and their connection to the environment.

The students were divided into four teams, and each team was given a large sheet of paper, crayons, markers, and pencils. Their task was to draw the interior of an imaginary home together, paying attention to furniture, appliances, and objects they use every day.

After drawing, each team identified at least five different materials from which the objects were made and thought about their origins – from natural raw materials to finished products in their homes. This information was written in bubbles around the drawn houses.

After completing the drawing, the teams presented their work, followed by a group discussion on the connection between our homes and the environment. Students discussed the origin of materials, the differences between them, and the importance of using resources responsibly.

Students demonstrated great creativity and analytical thinking, recognizing that many everyday objects come from natural sources such as wood, metal, plastic, and glass. The discussion was very dynamic, with students expressing interesting conclusions about how materials go through a long processing process before reaching our homes.

Many recognized the importance of recycling and environmentally friendly materials, and suggested ways in which they could reduce their negative impact on the environment.

After researching the origin of materials in the previous activity, students reflected on the energy efficiency of their homes in the “Back to Home” activity. Teams upgraded their previously drawn houses, adding energy-saving solutions such as better insulation, the use of renewable energy sources, and smart heat management.

Students discussed types of heating, thermal properties of materials, and energy costs, and then presented their suggestions for a more energy-efficient home. The activity encouraged critical thinking and teamwork, and students demonstrated an understanding of the importance of sustainable solutions.

“Renewable or non-renewable – let’s create our own board game” – this activity started with participants discussing the elements of board games they were familiar with. After that, they were divided into teams, with each team appointing a leader. The goal was to design a simple board game that included a board with fields, dice, question cards, and challenges.

One team created a game board with marked fields (start, end, resources, challenges). The other teams designed the rules of the game, question and challenge cards, and a scoring system.

The activity successfully encouraged collaboration.
