Public forum “A healthy environment as a human right”.
At the invitation of the Center for Democracy and Law Miko Tripalo and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in the Republic of Croatia, on April 3, 2025, we participated in a public forum entitled “A Healthy Environment as a Human Right”. The panelists considered the topic of environmental protection in relation to humanity through a legal aspect (Prof. Dr. Sc. Ksenija Turković, Faculty of Law UNIZG; Enes Čerimagić, Green Action) and through the prism of civil society (Vedran Horvat, Institute for Political Ecology) and technical limitations (Prof. Dr. Sc. Roko Andričević, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, UNIST).
The topics that were opened and attempted to be clarified referred to the scope of the European Court of Human Rights, which does not have conventions specifically related to the environment, but which nevertheless greatly affects it through the right to life and home. Likewise, the adoption of European directives related to the environment, and energy transition mechanisms at the level of the Republic of Croatia and the EU, were discussed.
In the end, the question of whether the current social structure is sustainable in terms of protecting life and the future to come remained open, and there was no clear answer from anyone. However, the conclusion was that we must work for the common good, because what else is left for us?
