Drystonewall extravaganza.

From 1 to 30 September 2015, a short-term European Volunteer Service called “Drystonewall Extravaganza” was organized by the Association for the Protection of Nature and the Environment and promoting the sustainable development of Argonauts and international partners. Fifteen young people from Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Bulgaria participated in the European Voluntary Service activities for thirty days.

What made September Saturdays 2015 in Murter unusual? A group of young people renovated drywall, collected debris and cleaned the hedge at Gradina – the site of the Colentum archaeological site. In Roman times the city and port, Colentum was an opportunity for these young people to learn more about traditional skills, cultural heritage and working in an international team. The European Volunteer Service is funded by the European Erasmus + program, which enables EU youth and beyond to spend some time abroad working on various projects of civil society organizations. The aim of the European Voluntary Extravaganza Volunteer Service project is to promote the Colentum archaeological site as a valuable part of Europe’s cultural heritage and to raise awareness and raise awareness of the values ​​of cultural/archaeological heritage and their potential for sustainable rural development.

Volunteers have used their creativity to create thematic content at the Colentum and have contributed to the improvement of the Colentum Management Plan during the month. The purpose of the project activities was to encourage young people’s participation in sustainable development, to motivate young people from the local community and the region to participate in civil society projects and European youth mobility activities. The project presented to the local community of the island of Murter the European Voluntary Service and the Erasmus + program as an effective tool for developing common European interests such as cultural heritage.

GOALS: The aim of the European Voluntary Extravaganza Volunteer Service project is to promote the Colentum archaeological site as a valuable part of Europe's cultural heritage and to raise awareness and raise awareness of cultural/archaeological heritage values ​​and their potential for sustainable rural development.

USERS: Direct beneficiaries: 5 civil society organizations and 15 young people between the ages of 18 and 30, from Italy, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria and Turkey. Indirect beneficiaries: a local community of Murter Island, the youth of Murter Island.
