RECinMED – Inclusive energy communities for renewable energy in the Mediterranean.
The acronym of the RECinMED project is an abbreviation for the full name, which reads: “Inclusive energy”.
communities in the Mediterranean”/” A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the
Mediterranean Region”. This project, in which the Argonauts Association participates as a partner, has begun
is January 1, 2024, and will last until June 30, 2026. The project was financed as part of Interreg Euro-MED
program 2021-2027. through the European Regional Development Fund
Fund (ERDF)) and IPAII funds.
The energy transition can only rely on the direct involvement of all actors acting on
territory: citizens, public bodies, private companies and scientific institutions. Stronger cooperation is needed
at the transnational level to improve an integrated approach, innovating existing models at
based on best practices and studies conducted in various fields.
RECinMED, through a partnership made up of 11 project partners coming from 9 countries and three
affiliated partner, aims to test innovative solutions in order to encourage the creation and good
functioning of RECs. The project seeks to promote sustainability and energy independence in
the Mediterranean area by encouraging the development of multiple communities of renewable energy sources that
are inclusive and involve collaboration between different stakeholders.
The project will develop a new FORUM for cooperation and coordination activities at the transnational level and
strengthen networking and positive spillovers among projects concerning energy communities.
In addition, three working groups will be established to analyze existing knowledge, and pilot actions will be implemented in three
different contexts: urban areas, rural areas and islands. Each working group will face
certain challenges and will be able to identify the best way to transfer and increase quality
proven solutions in new areas.
The final results of the project will be presented in reports on the testing of new solutions, reports on
new stakeholder engagement initiatives and pilot plans along with ongoing reports
assessing the quality of project implementation and management, including communication.
Priority program: Greener MED
Specific objective RSO2.4: Promote adaptation to climate change and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account ecosystem-based approaches.
Project mission: Promotion of green residential areas
Project category: Test project (thematic project)
GOALS: The project is aimed at contributing to the energy transition of the Mediterranean region, moving away from fossil fuels towards resilient models based on renewable energy sources. Energy communities for renewable energy create preconditions for the development of socio-ecological local associations that will encourage transnational innovative solutions for carbon-neutral regional life that will help local communities to reduce their energy dependence and prevent energy poverty.
USERS: Public, civil and for-profit sectors in the areas involved.
