Marco: STOP Burnin Plastic.

Piše: Marco Mazzota — 31. ožujka, 2022.

In many developing countries, burning plastic waste is the main way to get rid of household garbage while producing cheap heat, otherwise too expensive for people to afford. In developed countries, that just doesn’t make any sense.
Burning plastic is a practice that must be stopped, especially in developed countries where there is no need whatsoever, whereas the risks are countless.

According to the World Health Organization, dioxins, by-products of plastic combustion, are highly toxic and can cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and also cause cancer. In the environment, dioxins tend to accumulate in the food chain. The higher an animal is in the food chain, the higher the concentration of dioxins. And humans are at the top of the food chain.

Greater problems are also seen in the transmission of dioxins from generation to generation. The Birth Defect Research for Children claims that dioxins have been found to disrupt the balance of the endocrine system. Dioxins cross the placenta, concentrate in the fetus, and are suspected of causing reproductive effects. Those effects include complications of pregnancy, such as Dioxin spontaneous abortion. Birth defects include abnormal development of the germ layer in the early embryo. Other defects are developmental and growth retardation, skeletal, cardiovascular, central nervous system malformations, decreased sperm quality, and feminization.

Be a good citizen. Find your local disposal and bring your plastic waste there, please.
