MIAU MARKET IN MURTER.

Datum objave: 7. July, 2025.

Hello Argonautas!

We are Ana and Theresa, two volunteers from Spain and Germany. We have been taking part in an European Solidarity Corps project within Argonauta association since last September, and this summer we are organizing our personal project to make a positive impact in the community we have been living in for the last year.

The Miau Market will be a second-hand event in which you can choose the price of clothes and objects because we are not selling them – we are raising funds to donate to Šibenske Šape, an association that protects and cares for abandoned animals. The event will take place on the 29th, the 30th, and the 31st of July in Rudina Square starting from 19.30.

…but, where does this idea come from?

During our volunteering experience in Murter, we started to be aware that fashion was a shared interest and a point of reflection. Limited access to new or second-hand clothing and the solitude of winter led us to reconsider our consumption habits. Working with an organisation focused on sustainable development deepened this reflection, shifting our initial frustration into an awareness of the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry and the importance of mindful consumption.

At the same time, we noticed the complete absence of a second-hand clothing market, which inspired us to connect our passion for fashion with sustainability through a personal project. Another aspect that enriched our winter experience was Murter’s large cat community. The coexistence of people and stray cats in public spaces had a positive impact on our well-being, highlighting the importance of ensuring healthy and hygienic conditions for animals to maintain harmony in shared environments.

For this reason, we’ve decided to merge these two aspects into a single project: to promote fashion and circular commerce, while raising funds for a local organization that protects and cares for the abandoned animals, called Šibenske Šape.

…and, how does it work?

We need your help! Until July 25th, we’re collecting second-hand clothes, books, and small household items (max. size 50 cm) in good condition. Donations can be dropped off at: DRUŠTVENI CENTAR JEDRO, BUTINA 2, 22243 Murter from Monday to Friday, 9:00–14:00

Please message us before donating to confirm we’re in the office. You can reach us at the following numbers: Ana (+34 628 866 144) Theresa (+49 1525 5167173)

Collected items will be sold at the flea market, and unsold goods will be donated to the Red Cross.

Thank you very much for reading and being interested in our project. Shop, donate, and make a positive impact on our community and the planet!

Please take a couple of minutes to answer this short survey about the impact we as ESC volunteers have on the local community. Thank you 🙂
