Eco-Wednesday: “Who Lives in Murter?”.
This Wednesday, our eco-workshop took a deep dive into one of the most fascinating questions we can ask ourselves: Who shares this island with us? From land to sea, Murter is home to an incredible variety of plants and animals – and today, we got to know some of them a little better.
We started by exploring the rich and diverse flora and fauna of our beautiful island. Through interactive games and group discussion, we identified many of the amazing species that make up our local ecosystem. From seagulls to sea urchins, wild herbs to pine trees, it was a great reminder of just how alive and interconnected everything is here.
As we learned, Murter isn’t just our home – it’s home to countless wild neighbors, too. And that’s exactly why protecting nature is so important. Every plant and creature plays a part in keeping the island healthy, and when we care for the environment, we’re also caring for ourselves.
After getting to know the names and faces of our local species, we took action! Together, we went outside and collected litter from the area – bits of plastic, wrappers, and other waste that didn’t belong in nature. We made sure to sort everything into the correct recycling bins, turning our cleanup into a lesson in responsible waste management.
To celebrate our small but meaningful contribution, we ended the day in the most colorful way: with a face painting session! Inspired by the animals we’d learned about, we transformed ourselves into buzzing bees, sly foxes, sleepy owls, and curious cats. It was a playful way to show how connected we are to the natural world – and how fun protecting it can be.
Eco-Wednesdays like this one remind us that even the smallest actions can make a big difference, especially when we act together. Because in the end, we’re not just visitors in nature – we’re part of it.
Let’s keep exploring, learning, and protecting what makes Murter so special. 🌍💚
