JANUARY BY THE SEA.
This month has been a perfect balance of tranquility, nature, and the beginning of new plans. January started with elections in Croatia. On the 12th, we discovered who would be president during our time here, and that day, we went on an excursion — a cold one — with our mentor, Karlo. We finished the day in Šibenik, waiting for the election results.

This month, we started several new projects, including workshops like the Winter program and Eco-Wednesdays, another YE in Šibenik, and a new one in… Sweden! Theresa and I are really excited about this last one because neither of us has been to Sweden before, and the topic seems fascinating (Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change). I’m not sure how my body will handle the weather change between Croatia and Sweden in March. I hope to survive, but if you don’t see my April blog, that means I didn’t survive the extreme weather change.

The first swim of the year took place on January 25th! Pretty crazy, to be honest. During these weeks, we got a taste of what spring will be like, but for now, the cold is back (as it should be in January), so we’ll have to put the confetti away again and wait a little longer. I think the picture of the plant below is a perfect representation of Theresa and me right now.

We celebrated the end of January with a little trip to Split. We visited a couple of friends and managed to fill them with plans for the 24 hours we were there. Split is an amazing city, and it’s always a pleasure to visit (especially in the off-season when you can stroll through the streets without as many people). And if any future volunteers are reading this, please have lunch at Index if you go to Split.

We placed a huge calendar in the kitchen for the next months and we can already see that it will be non-stop from March to September. I couldn’t believe this back in December. Looking forward for the upcoming adventures 🙂
P.S. My phone decided to die, so Theresa took most of these pictures. Danke Schön.
