RECINMED – Inclusive Energy Communities for Renewable Energy in the Mediterranean

RECINMED – Inclusive Energy Communities for Renewable Energy in the Mediterranean

The acronym for the RECinMED project is short for the full name: "Inclusive energy
communities in the Mediterranean“/” A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the
“Mediterranean Region.” This project, in which the Argonauta association is participating as a partner, has begun.
It began on January 1, 2024, and will run until June 30, 2026. The project is funded under the Interreg Euro-MED program.
program for 2021-2027 through the European Regional Development Fund
ERDF and IPAII funds.

The energy transition can only rely on the direct involvement of all actors operating in
Territory: citizens, public bodies, private companies, and scientific institutions. Stronger cooperation is needed.
at the transnational level to improve the integrated approach, innovating existing models on
based on best practices and studies conducted in various fields.

RECinMED, through a partnership consisting of 11 project partners coming from 9 countries and three
associated partners, aims to test innovative solutions in order to encourage creation and good
Operation of RECs. The project seeks to promote sustainability and energy independence in
in the Mediterranean area by promoting the development of multiple renewable energy communities that
They are inclusive and include collaboration between different stakeholders.

The project will develop a new FORUM for cooperation and coordination activities at transnational level and strengthen networking and positive spillovers between projects concerning energy communities. In addition, three working groups will be established to analyse existing knowledge and carry out pilot actions in three different contexts: urban areas, rural areas and islands. Each working group will face specific challenges and will be able to identify the best way to transfer and increase the quality of proven solutions in new areas.

The final results of the project will be presented in reports on the testing of emerging solutions, reports on new initiatives for the involvement of stakeholders and pilot plans together with reports on the continuous assessment of the quality of the implementation and management of the project, including communication.

Priority program: Greener MED
Specific objective RSO2.4: Promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account ecosystem-based approaches.
Project mission: Promoting green residential areas
Project category: Test project (thematic project)

Project objectives

  • The project aims to contribute to the energy transition of the Mediterranean region, moving away from fossil fuels towards resilient models based on renewable energy sources. Renewable energy energy communities create the preconditions for the development of socio-ecological local associations that will foster transnational innovative solutions for carbon-neutral living in the area, helping local communities to reduce their energy dependence and prevent energy poverty.
