Kornati – 8 Things You Should Know About the Sea

Kornati – 8 Things You Should Know About the Sea

The goal of the KORNATI – VAŽNO JE O MORU ZNATI 8 project is to raise awareness of the value of nature, specifically the Kornati Archipelago, through educational programs, conducting educational ecological workshops for preschool and early elementary school children on the topic of biological diversity. span>diversity and marine protection, and leading an extracurricular activity called Eco- Patrol, as a monthly after-school and extracurricular activity for upper elementary school children.

Component I: Educational programs on the Kornati Archipelago

During the educational trip to Kornati National Park, children will be shown the importance of nature conservation through topics in geology, terrestrial and marine biology, cultural and historical heritage, and a demonstration of field research in marine biology. In implementing the educational programs, we will include children and young people with developmental disabilities and gifted children in the same groups, thereby fostering a new attitude toward diversity and encouraging mutual support. The practice of these outings to date has shown a high level of interest from the children, and the workshops have achieved a high level of education as well as socialization.

Component II: Eco-Wednesday, a workshop for preschool and elementary school children

Through this project, we would organize systematic education for preschool and elementary school children on nature conservation, the environment, with an emphasis on the marine environment, all with the goal of educating children from the earliest age to raise awareness about the importance of preserving their own homeland and to create little environmentalists from day one who will make positive changes in society. Workshops will be held once a week during March, April, and May and will be free for participants. A collaboration will be established with preschools and elementary schools, and a young person with the knowledge and skills for working with children will be hired for this role. The newly hired young person will have an Argonaut staff member as an assistant, and international volunteers will help with running the workshops.

Component III: Argonaut's Eco-Patrol

As part of the project, we will hire a young person or someone with relevant volunteer experience on a contract. This person will be the Manager of the “Argonaut Eco-Patrol.” The eco-patrol will be held once a week at the Vodice/Tisno elementary school or outdoors, depending on the weather, and will be intended for a mixed group of elementary school-aged students from OŠ Vodice/Tisno. The leader, as part of the project and in collaboration with partner and collaborating organizations (Kornati National Park Administration and Vodice/Tisno Elementary School), will develop an existing educational program that will be interdisciplinary (biology, geography, ecology) and will include 50% fieldwork (coastal cleanup campaigns, dolphin watching, maintaining a marine aquarium, maintaining a small invertebrate collection, bird watching, identifying and resolving environmental problems in the local community, etc.). The Argonauta Association will carry out the project in close cooperation with the project partners: the Municipality of Murter-Kornati, Vodice Elementary School, Spužvica Daycare Center, Tisno, the Šubićevac Center for Education and Care, Šibenik, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb, Aurora Association, Šibenik, and Kamenčići Association - Šibenik, and the Kornati National Park Administration. Each of these partners contributes to the implementation of project activities from their own area of expertise.
