FEED – From edible sprouts to healthy food
FEED – From edible sprouts to healthy food
The Argonauta Association, together with the Faculty of Food and Biotechnology in Zagreb, is a partner in the FEED project. The FEED project (From Edible sprouts to hEalthy fooD) aims to promote the development of a new trend toward the consumption of “functional foods,” using fresh sprouts of various botanical origins, with a special focus on traditional, local, and wild edible species. Sprouts will also be formulated for the production of new food ingredients and transformed into various functional foods that will offer additional health benefits to meet consumer demand while maintaining environmentally friendly processes and products. Furthermore, since fresh sprouts are highly perishable and have a short shelf life, new bio-based and biodegradable active packaging will be developed to extend the shelf life and ensure the safety of the sprouts.
Argonaute’s role in the project is to communicate the project’s main findings to children and young people, encouraging them to take an interest in healthy eating habits based on the Mediterranean diet. Therefore, as project partners, we will develop and test an educational e-guide for secondary school teachers and all those working with young people, including trainers in non-formal education, and provide useful and simple teaching materials to promote healthy eating habits. We will also create an interactive website and an online archive on Mediterranean food with linked social media channels, documenting online recipes from the Mediterranean diet across the Mediterranean region.
