Mature and Green – The Contribution of Retirees and Students to Greening Public Spaces

Mature and Green – The Contribution of Retirees and Students to Greening Public Spaces

The "Mature and Green – Contribution of Pensioners and Students to Greening Public Spaces" project is turning Vodice into an example of concrete action against the effects of climate change by creating new shaded green areas in public spaces. In response to the increasingly pronounced overheating of urban surfaces, the project brings together at least 100 participants (seniors and students) who, through education on the impact of green spaces on reducing temperatures, will actively participate in a major planting initiative of 30 mulberry trees on public grounds. Additionally, 100 saplings of native species will be distributed to retirees for planting in their yards, thereby promoting the greening of the city and the long-term improvement of quality of life.

Project objectives

  • Mitigating the effects of climate change by creating new green shaded areas in urban areas.
  • Increasing green spaces by planting 30 mulberry trees and 100 native saplings.
  • Educating at least 100 retirees and students about the importance of green spaces, reducing CO₂ emissions, and protecting the environment.
  • Fostering intergenerational collaboration and active volunteering through joint environmental actions, and raising awareness among the local community about the importance of greening and sustainable development through campaigns, media, and social networks.
