On 17 April 2026, the fifth workshop was held at Vodice Primary School as part of the "Kornati – It's Important to Know 10 Things About the Sea" project, funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth and implemented through the Argonauta Association's Eco-Patrols programme.

The workshop began with an introductory discussion on the basic principles of waste management. The students were introduced to the concept of waste management as a set of activities that include the collection, processing and disposal of waste, with an emphasis on protecting human health and the environment. Particular emphasis was placed on reducing waste generation, recycling and reuse.

First activity: Waste management pyramid

The students were divided into two groups and, through a task of matching terms and definitions and ranking them, developed an understanding of the waste management hierarchy.

Both groups identified waste prevention as the most desirable form, emphasising the problem of excessive packaging and fast fashion. Waste disposal was identified as the least desirable.

The students demonstrated a high level of awareness of the problem of waste and an understanding that waste can often become a valuable raw material.

Second activity: Art from waste

In the creative part of the workshop, the students used waste materials from their homes to make new items such as picture frames and piggy banks.

Working in pairs encouraged collaboration and the exchange of ideas, while the video instructions enabled independent monitoring of the creation process. The activity further developed creativity, practical skills and awareness of the importance of reuse.

Third activity: Evaluation

At the end of the workshop, the students reflected on their experience by drawing the outline of their hand and writing down their impressions.

• What surprised you? How much waste can become useful again?
• What didn't you like? People produce too much waste.
• What would you like to know more about? How can I help reduce waste?
• What little thing delighted you? The result of my work.
