Beginning of a new year

Beginning of a new year

Hi Argonautas,

Welcome to my first blog of 2026.

This January, a lot of things happened, and the month flew by so fast that I almost feel like it went by in two seconds. First, I had the best start to the year in years; I was in great company with my friends first and then my family, and it made me realize that no matter where I travel, I know I can always come back to them and have a great time.

Then I had to say goodbye to them again, but it wasn’t sad. I actually felt happy to return to Croatia, as I felt that my life was waiting for me there to continue.

But what a journey it was to get back…
Since I’m trying to avoid planes, I mainly use buses. On these days, Europe was facing a huge snowstorm, so after waiting for my bus connection in the middle of the night in Lyon, at -11°C, I found out that my bus wouldn’t make it to Šibenik and that I’d have to stop at 2 a.m. in a random city on the border of Slovenia… Great experience 🤘😅

Of course, I managed to make it home.

I was happy to meet the team again and surprisingly excited to go to the office as well. But we didn’t stay long because a week later we were packing our bags again, heading to the “on arrival training” in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

This training was supposed to take place in our second month, so much of what we covered was a bit repetitive, as it was mainly things we had already experienced. Still, it was a great experience. First, we were able to travel for free to another country, and we met amazing people volunteering all over the Balkan region. I felt really lucky to have these opportunities, and discussing them with others opened up even more possibilities for me. I love that feeling!!

Sarajevo itself isn’t my favorite city though, but the food was great and the experience was definitely worth it.

After five intense days, we headed back to our little island, to its beautiful nature and sunny weather.

And to conclude the month, we met the volunteers from Šibenik, and we are very happy about it because they are very nice, and we finally have friends in the area, ehehe

And that was basically the beginning of 2026.

See you next month 😄
