Workshop "Mediterranean Diet and Tradition" at the Šibenik Transport and Technical School

On Wednesday, 10 December 2025, we held a workshop at the Šibenik Transport and Technical School, dedicated to tradition and understanding different cultural perspectives, as part of the FEED project. 
We opened the workshop with a brief introduction on how culture — family, national, school or social — influences the way we view time, food, personal space and communication. Within the first few minutes, students were sharing their experiences of situations where something that was "normal" to them was unusual to others, or vice versa. This laid the foundation for an open and lively dialogue.

In the central part of the workshop, students explored five scenarios of cultural misunderstandings through the method of role-play. Each group was given a different situation and tasked with bringing it to life through a short improvisation:

The puzzle of accuracy – differences in relation to the weather

A food surprise – contrasting table manners and different dietary customs

Invasion of space – different levels of personal space and non-verbal communication

The Gift Dilemma – Misunderstandings about Gifting and Hospitality

Loud vs. Quiet – A Clash of Communication Styles and Different Expectations in Teamwork

The students performed the scenarios successfully, with a touch of humour 🙂

After the performances, we held a brief reflection on emotions, non-verbal communication cues, possible interpretations of behaviour and ways in which misunderstandings can be prevented or resolved through dialogue. They concluded that much could have been avoided simply by asking questions or offering explanations.

To conclude, we held a short quiz, "How Well Do You Know Cultural Differences?". The students answered quick A/B/C questions about customs in various countries, and the atmosphere became competitive, energetic and fun.
The quiz served as a light and dynamic overview of everything they had learned during the workshop — from table manners and rituals to attitudes towards time, silence and gift-giving.
