As part of the "FEED" project, we have developed educational modules which are now being piloted through workshops in schools. The aim of this workshop was to encourage discussion about the appearance of food, expiry dates and waste, prompting participants to reflect on their dietary habits and cultural perspectives, as well as to understand the systemic issues related to food (not just individual behaviour).
The workshop began with an interactive discussion about participants' dietary habits and experiences, which fostered an open dialogue and the exchange of diverse cultural perspectives.
In the second part of the workshop, participants expressed themselves creatively by devising a media campaign to raise awareness of food waste. Each group was tasked with coming up with a slogan and a visual representation to encourage a specific target group to reduce food waste. Some focused on families, some on young people, and others created an advert for everyone! There were also very direct slogans, such as "Let's save!", as well as a range of practical tips for reducing waste.
Plan your meals in advance so you only buy what you really need.
Use leftovers for new dishes and creative recipes.
Freeze any surplus food instead of throwing it away.
Prepare quantities that correspond to actual needs.
Donate any surplus you have to those in need.
Do you have any other tips that you use in your own household?
