As part of the "Kornati – 10 Important Things to Know About the Sea" project, funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, the third educational excursion to Kornati National Park was held on 23 August 2026.

The excursion was attended by large families who had won a free trip by entering a competition posted on the Argonaut Association's social media, as well as by clients of the Zadar Community Service Centre.

The aim of the excursion was to introduce participants to the natural, cultural and historical values of the Kornati archipelago and, through direct experience, encourage them to better understand the importance of conserving nature and the marine environment.

Through conversation, shared activities, creative work and time spent in nature, participants got to know the Kornati from different perspectives. Discussions covered life on the islands and how people have been connected to nature and the sea throughout history, as well as the richness of the Kornati seabed, marine habitats and the importance of posidonia for preserving marine biodiversity.

A special emphasis was placed on understanding the Kornati as a space shaped not only by the sea and stone, but also by people, animals and nature through centuries of interconnectedness. Through activities, participants had the opportunity to explore how traditional ways of life, such as sheep farming and olive growing, dry-stone walling and adaptation to life at sea, have left their mark on the islands' present-day appearance.

At the same time, getting to know the marine world reminded us that the Kornati are not just the landscape we see on the surface. Beneath it lies a complex and valuable ecosystem made up of numerous organisms and habitats, and its conservation requires knowledge, responsibility and an active engagement with nature.

The third educational outing once again demonstrated how valuable it is to learn about nature in nature itself. Hands-on experience, collaborative work and socialising enable new knowledge to be connected to the environment that participants have the opportunity to experience firsthand.
