On Thursday, 21st May, together with pupils from Vjekoslav Kaleb Primary School in Tisno, we organised a planting action using biochar. This is a follow-up to the theoretical workshop we held with the same pupils in March, where we introduced them to all the benefits of using biochar when planting. In March, we had already planted two small oaks; one with biochar and one without. The pupils monitored their growth, and now we have planted them, along with the other saplings, in the school garden using biochar.

The pupils enjoyed the activities of planting and caring for the saplings, and we were very pleased when the pupils explained to us why biochar is so good – because it enriches the soil, absorbs water and nutrients from the ground excellently, thereby helping the plant to grow – exactly as we had taught them through informal methods earlier this year.

After all, a trial planting of two oaks also showed that the one in biochar grows better than the one in ordinary soil.
