Dear Argonautas,
Welcome to my brand new volunteer blog!!
My name is Mayline, I am 19 years old, just finished school and decided it is time to go somewhere new. When I got accepted by Argonauta I knew that this must be fate and my chance to learn and experience something new.
I’m so excited to share this exciting journey with you and finally tell you what I have been up to in the last month..
Before my adventure at Argonauta even started I was able to visit Murter with my mum beforehand. We explored the Island a little and hung out at Murters beautiful beaches. We tried almost every restaurant and just enjoyed our last few days together.
On the 5th of September it was finally time to move into my brand new home. Nela met us with her daughter at the apartment and gave us the keys. I started unpacking and after a trip to Konzum me and my mum had one last dinner together. After an emotional goodbye I was on my own for the first time ever and because my work wouldn't start until the 7th I had a whole day to myself to really get settled in this new situation.
Then on Monday it was finally time to go to the office and meet the team. I was introduced to my tasks and had my first coffee break with the team. Everyone is so nice!
And then my roommate finally arrived! Welcome Violetta!!
We immediately got to know each other and of course had to go to the beach together. One of my favourite memories of the first few days was when we ate Pizza and a little girl just greeted us at the port. We felt a little more like we really belonged here. For one of our first tasks we did vision boards that now hang next to our desks and remind us of our motivation.
Za naš prvi mjesec ovdje, rujan je definitivno bio poprilično ispunjen.
For September being our first month here it was surely busy. The excitement of the first few days wore off but right as we settled into a routine the new short term volunteers arrived and that gave us some new tasks.Social Media is a lot more work than it seems, especially when you need to do it in two languages. Violetta and I kind of annoyed them with our constant need to take pictures but I mean that is our job :)
We also did a clean up action at the coast and Violetta and I were part of our first workshop.
Ali ekipa iz Island Extravaganze bila je upravo ono što mi je trebalo. Kroz puno odlazaka na plažu, spontane večere i nekoliko kaotičnih partija biljara, stvarno smo se upoznali, puno smijali i postali jedna mala, slatka ekipica.
One of my highlights was the french dinner we had one night which consisted of about 11 thousand crepes and sandwiches that were stuck to aluminum foil. And another one was the complete torture of our bike trip where we went up the steepest mountain of Murter all thanks to Marcos(that’s completely true and not me exaggerating). But I have to say in the end it was worth it. The beach was amazing and the way back was a lot more chill.
We also went on my first city trip here in Croatia with them. We decided to go to Split over the weekend to check if the city is still alive at the end of the season. We ate Focaccia danced and sang together and explored the ruins. We sure had a lot of fun and even though the way back felt like 17 hours of never ending waiting for buses it was worth every second.
These people got really close to my heart in such a short time and have been a real help for me to settle into this new situation. So if you are reading this: thank you guys :)
Now that September and with that my first month here comes to an end I can say with certainty that I am beyond excited for the next 11 months to come and especially for the next one because in October Violetta and I join Lucija to go to our first Youth Exchange and then have our On Arrival training right after that! YAY
